Perry vs Kennedy, Super8 Final: Some takes

Here are some quick takes from Sarah-Jane Perry’s victory over Georgina Kennedy in Friday’s final of the AJ Bell Super8 championships in Manchester.

Perry managed to stay in front of Kennedy, hitting many shots from mid-court, while forcing Kennedy deep.

This pattern was replicated in each Game. G2 was most closely contested, with Kennedy going some way towards evening up this shot position discrepancy

Kennedy consistently opted to hit cross court from the front corners, with Perry happier to play down the line.

Kennedy tried to push Perry into the front corners with a high number of boasts from deep right - but these were sitting up too much, allowing Perry to hit from backhand mid-court instead of dragging her out of position.

...and from mid-court, Perry was relentless in forcing Kennedy deep.

Kennedy’s boast from deep is a weapon, but carries with it risks. Of the 13 unforced errors committed by both players during the mach, Kennedy hit 5 of these from deep on the backhand.
